Health and Safety policy

Man with Van Tolworth Health and Safety Policy

This Health and Safety Policy sets out the commitment of Man with Van Tolworth to provide a safe and healthy working environment for our workers, customers, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and delivery activities. We aim to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property at all times.

Our Health and Safety Objectives

Man with Van Tolworth is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety management throughout all removal and transportation services. Our objectives are to:

Identify, assess and control risks associated with lifting, carrying, loading, unloading and transporting goods.

Ensure that vehicles and equipment are safe, well maintained and suitable for the work undertaken.

Provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision to all workers.

Promote a positive safety culture where everyone understands and accepts their responsibilities.

Review our procedures regularly and strive for continual improvement.

Legal Responsibilities

We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, industry regulations and recognised best practice applicable to removal and transportation activities. Management accepts overall responsibility for ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures and risk controls are in place and effective. Workers are required to co operate with these arrangements and to follow all safe systems of work.

Management Responsibilities

Management at Man with Van Tolworth will:

Provide and maintain a safe working environment, including vehicles, equipment and tools.

Carry out risk assessments for key tasks such as manual handling, working on or near the highway, and use of lifting equipment.

Implement safe working procedures and ensure they are clearly communicated and understood.

Supply suitable personal protective equipment where required and ensure it is used correctly.

Ensure that only competent, trained individuals undertake driving, lifting and other higher risk tasks.

Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, taking corrective action to prevent recurrence.

Review this policy periodically and whenever there are significant changes in operations or legislation.

Worker Responsibilities

Every worker engaged by Man with Van Tolworth is required to:

Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.

Follow all safety instructions, training and safe systems of work.

Use equipment, tools and vehicles only for their intended purpose and in accordance with training.

Wear any personal protective equipment provided and look after it properly.

Report hazards, defects, accidents, incidents and near misses to management as soon as reasonably practicable.

Refrain from horseplay, misuse of equipment or any behaviour that could endanger themselves or others.

Safe Manual Handling and Loading

Manual handling and the movement of furniture, boxes and household items are central to our operations. To minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries and property damage, we will:

Assess the weight, shape and stability of loads before lifting or moving them.

Use mechanical aids, trolleys, skates, straps and other equipment where appropriate.

Encourage team lifting for bulky or heavy items and avoid lone lifting of unsafe loads.

Plan access routes, including stairs, corridors and doorways, to avoid slips, trips and falls.

Protect floors, walls and fixtures where necessary to prevent damage and reduce tripping hazards.

Provide training in correct lifting techniques and safe carrying practices.

Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards

Our vehicles are central to the safe delivery of removal services. Man with Van Tolworth will:

Ensure vehicles are roadworthy, taxed, insured and maintained with regular safety checks.

Check tyres, lights, brakes and restraints regularly and address any defects before use.

Secure loads properly to prevent movement during transit and avoid overloading.

Require drivers to hold valid licences and be medically fit to drive.

Promote defensive driving and compliance with speed limits and traffic regulations.

Discourage driving when tired and encourage adequate rest breaks to reduce fatigue.

Working at Customer Locations

Our work often takes place at customer homes, offices and storage facilities. At all locations we will:

Assess the immediate environment on arrival, noting access issues, steps, uneven surfaces, low ceilings or other hazards.

Plan safe routes for moving items between the property and the vehicle.

Keep work areas as tidy as reasonably practicable, reducing slip and trip risks.

Use appropriate protection for customer property, such as blankets and covers, to prevent damage.

Act courteously and professionally, ensuring that customers and members of the public are kept away from hazardous areas where possible.

Training, Information and Supervision

Man with Van Tolworth recognises that competent and informed workers are essential for safe operations. We will:

Provide induction training covering key health and safety risks, emergency procedures and company rules.

Deliver task specific training for manual handling, use of equipment and safe driving practices.

Supervise new or inexperienced workers until they can work safely on their own.

Refresh training periodically and when changes occur in equipment, procedures or legislation.

Encourage workers to raise health and safety concerns without fear of reprisal.

Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly so that appropriate action can be taken. Man with Van Tolworth will:

Record significant incidents and take steps to prevent similar events.

Ensure that first aid provision is available and that workers know how to obtain assistance.

Have arrangements in place for summoning emergency services when required.

Co operate with customers, insurers and authorities in the investigation of serious incidents.

Policy Review and Continual Improvement

This Health and Safety Policy reflects the current structure and activities of Man with Van Tolworth. It will be reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to ensure it remains effective and relevant to our removal and transportation services. Everyone working with or on behalf of the company is expected to support the implementation of this policy and contribute to a safe and healthy working environment.
